At Fresh Start DFW Reentry Homes, we provide a wide range of supportive services designed to help older adults and veterans build stability, independence, and a sense of belonging. Our housing and independent living support begins with transitional housing assistance for those moving from homelessness, incarceration, or unstable living arrangements into a safe and welcoming home. We also guide residents in finding permanent housing options such as senior apartments, subsidized housing, or private rentals. Through life skills training in areas like cooking, cleaning, budgeting, personal care, and home maintenance, residents gain the confidence to live independently. In addition, we offer roommate and social living support that focuses on communication, conflict resolution, and building positive community relationships.
Employment and financial stability are also key to long-term success, which is why we offer job readiness programs including resume building, interview coaching, and vocational training tailored to older adults. We connect residents with part-time or flexible employment opportunities through local business partners, while financial literacy workshops help them manage budgets, reduce debt, and understand banking and benefits. Our staff also assists residents in accessing critical resources such as Social Security, disability benefits, veterans’ assistance, and SNAP.
Health and wellness are another cornerstone of our program. While we are a non-medical home, we ensure access to mental health counseling, peer support groups, and trauma-informed care. For those in recovery, we provide connections to substance abuse support groups and harm reduction resources. Residents can also participate in wellness activities such as group exercise, yoga, meditation, and nutrition classes. To promote safety and consistency, we offer non-medical reminders to help residents manage their prescribed medications.
We believe that social and community engagement creates purpose and joy, so we provide opportunities for residents to volunteer, participate in recreational activities like crafts, games, and outings, and build peer support through buddy systems and mentorship. We also encourage cultural and spiritual growth by helping residents attend religious services, cultural events, and community celebrations.
In addition, Fresh Start offers legal and advocacy support by connecting residents to expungement programs, assistance with outstanding warrants, and help navigating civil issues. We advocate for our residents to ensure their rights are protected and that they receive the resources they are entitled to. To make these opportunities more accessible, we provide transportation support through local shuttles, ride services, and training on how to use public transportation or ride-share apps.
Education and lifelong learning are also a priority. We provide digital literacy training to help residents become comfortable with smartphones, computers, and online platforms such as email and banking. For those who wish to continue their education, we offer access to GED preparation, literacy programs, and adult learning classes. Residents are also encouraged to develop hobbies and new skills through activities like art, music, and crafts.
Finally, we recognize the importance of family and social reintegration. We provide counseling and visitation support to help residents reconnect with loved ones in safe and healthy ways, and our communication workshops give them the tools to build stronger relationships with family, friends, and caregivers.
